    These Terms and Conditions (“Terms of Use”) govern your access to and use of bookofrecords.visitmaldives.com and any related subdomains, mobile applications, or services owned and operated by the Visit Maldives Corporation (collectively, the “BoR Services”). The Book of Records Privacy Policy forms part of these Terms and applies to your use of the BoR Services. By accessing or using the BoR Services, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you must not use the BoR Services.

    We may amend these Terms of Use or the Privacy Policy at any time. Updates take effect upon posting to the BoR Services, and your continued use constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. Additional rules or agreements may apply to account registration, record submissions, or participation in specific BoR programs.

    1. Use of the BoR Services

    The BoR Services are operated by Book of Records Maldives (“BoR”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) in collaboration with partners, verification experts, sponsors, and affiliates (“Service Providers”). The BoR Services contain text, images, audio, video, graphics, software, and other materials (collectively, “Content”) protected by Maldivian and international copyright and trademark laws.

    You must not:

    • Copy, reproduce, republish, adapt, modify, distribute, publicly display, or create derivative works from the Content without our prior written consent or the consent of the rights holder.
    • Post or share Content from the BoR Services to other websites, publications, or platforms without permission.
    • Remove copyright, trademark, or proprietary notices from any Content.

    All trademarks, service marks, and trade names displayed remain the property of their respective owners. The BoR Services may contain links to third-party websites (“External Sites”) provided for your convenience. We are not responsible for the content, policies, or practices of any External Sites. Unless expressly authorized in writing, the BoR Services are for personal, non-commercial use only. You must not use the BoR Services in a manner that disrupts, damages, or interferes with its operation, or that violates any applicable laws.

    2. Eligibility

    You must be at least 16 years of age to submit a record attempt. Users under 18 must have parental or guardian consent. If we believe you are under the minimum age without consent, we may terminate your account.

    3. Intellectual Property

    All rights in the BoR name, logos, platform design, and Content (excluding User Content) are owned by us or our licensors. You may use this material solely for personal, non-commercial purposes unless granted prior written consent.

    4. User Content

    The BoR Services may allow you to submit content (“User Content”), including record applications, images, videos, and descriptions. By submitting User Content, you:

    • Confirm that it is truthful, accurate, and your original work or that you have all necessary permissions and rights to submit it.
    • Grant BoR a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, transferable licence to use, reproduce, distribute, publish, adapt, and display the User Content in connection with the BoR Services, promotional activities, and related projects.
    • Grant other users the right to view, share, and reference your User Content via the BoR Services.

    You must not submit User Content that:

    • Infringes any copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights.
    • Contains false or misleading information.
    • Is unlawful, obscene, defamatory, harassing, discriminatory, or promotes illegal activity.
    • Impersonates any person or entity.

    We reserve the right to review, edit, remove, or refuse any User Content and suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

    5. Record Verification

    All record submissions are subject to our verification process, which may include:

    • Reviewing evidence provided.
    • Requesting additional documentation.
    • Consulting independent experts.
    • Conducting site visits or interviews.

    BoR’s decision to approve or reject a record is final.

    6. Safety

    You must not endanger yourself or others, take unnecessary risks, or break any laws while attempting a record or preparing submission materials. Avoid sharing personal contact details in publicly visible areas of the platform.

    7. Copyright Complaints

    If you believe that material on the BoR Services infringes your copyright, send a written notice to bookofrecords@visitmaldives.com containing:

    1. Your name, contact information, and signature.
    2. Identification of the copyrighted work.
    3. The location (URL) of the allegedly infringing material.
    4. A statement of good-faith belief that the use is unauthorized.
    5. A declaration under penalty of perjury that the information provided is accurate and you are authorized to act on the copyright owner’s behalf.

    8. User Accounts

    • You may not create multiple accounts to manipulate platform activity or harass others.
    • Accounts must be registered with a valid, regularly monitored email address.
    • We may suspend accounts using false details, disposable email addresses, or proxy IPs to conceal activity.

    9. Indemnity

    You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless BoR, its officers, employees, and partners from any claims, liabilities, damages, costs, or expenses arising from your use of the BoR Services or any breach of these Terms.

    10. Disclaimer & Limitation of Liability

    • The BoR Services and Content are provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any record or Content.
    • To the fullest extent permitted by law, BoR is not liable for any loss, damage, or injury arising from your use of (or inability to use) the BoR Services. Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

    11. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

    • These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Maldives.
    • Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of Maldivian courts.
    • If any provision is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force.
    • Failure to enforce any right under these Terms does not constitute a waiver of that right.
